Both locations now closed through at least May 4. Digital library available 24/7.
A message to all of our valued patrons:
As the coronavirus crisis continues, Southwest Public Libraries has made the difficult but necessary decision to extend closure of its two locations, Grove City Library and Westland Area Library, through at least May 4, 2020 in continued efforts to help mitigate the spread of the virus. With Governor DeWine’s extension of the stay-at-home order and projected analysis from experts that the pandemic has yet to peak, this extended closure is critical to help protect the health of everyone. We want to do our part to fight the spread.
The crisis is ever evolving, and so is our response. We will continue to adjust as necessary and follow all government and health guidelines for reopening. We are anxious to serve our patrons in person again and will reopen as soon as it is safely possible. This is a trying time for everyone, and we thank all of you for your continued understanding and support.
The book drops remain closed and locked during this period, and we ask you to hold on to materials at this time. Hold and due dates have been readjusted, and you can ignore any due notices you receive during this time. While the library is closed, nothing is due, no fees will accrue, and reserves will not be sent back.
SPL remains dedicated to serving you during this unprecedented closure. We hope you take the opportunity to explore the wealth of digital content available on our website www.swpl.org. Our digital library is open 24/7 and features e-books, e-audiobooks, e-magazines, streaming music and movies, research databases, self-learning courses, and much more. We continue to work to improve digital access, including broadening limits on digital checkouts, channeling more funds towards digital content, and offering new resources with the help of vendors. We’ve also compiled a growing list of exciting resources you can explore from other sources.
Don’t have a library card yet? No worries! Ohio residents without a library card can still register online to get a temporary barcode to access digital content.
Thank you once again for your continued understanding. We look forward to serving you in person once again. Until then, please stay home, stay strong, stay well. We will continue to keep you updated.
Mark M. Shaw, Director of Southwest Public Libraries
FAQs About Temporary Closure
- Items Due
Due dates for all items checked out, including those through Interlibrary Loan, SearchOhio or OhioLINK, have been extended to June 1. Due to these unusual circumstances, we will work with anyone with items that were already past due before the closure. Please disregard any overdue notices you may receive.
- Book Drops
Book drops at both locations are closed. Please keep all materials during this time of closure. No fees will be charged to your account.
Holds listed as Ready for Pick-up will be held at your pick-up location for 5 days after SPL reopens. Please disregard the pick-up date listed on your account. You may continue to place holds for items through the library’s catalog. All holds will show as “Suspended” until we reopen.
- New Library Cards
During our unexpected closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you can still sign up online for a library card. Click here to sign up. On your “successful registration screen”, you will receive a temporary barcode (PACREG#######). You can use this temporary barcode and the pin you assigned to your account to begin immediately using digital library services. Once the library reopens, you have 30 days to come into one of our locations with a valid photo ID and proof of address to receive your full access card. All applicants must be residents of Ohio.
- Existing Library Card Numbers and PINs
Library card PINs are 4 digits long. The PIN defaults to the last 4 numbers of the phone number associated with your account. You may have also opted to reset your PIN to a 4-digit number of your choosing. If you have registered for an account through our website, you can use the “Forgot your PIN?” link to be emailed a link to reset it. Please note: Library staff cannot reset your PIN for you.
