The Great War

World War I set the Central Powers against the Allied Powers in a bloody conflict that lasted four years and resulted in the deaths of more than nine million soldiers. Trench warfare, and the introduction of modern weaponry led to devastating levels of carnage and destruction. The Central Powers were defeated in November 1918, but at a terrible cost.
