You must be an Ohio resident to register for a library card. After completing the library card application at any Discovery Place location, you will need to present identification with your name and current address, such as a driver's license or Ohio State ID. Photo ID without current address must be accompanied by printed personal mail postmarked within two weeks or printed personal check.  You may also complete the Online Library Card Application and your card will be mailed to you. Cards applied for online will only allow access to the library's online resources. To check out materials with your new card, please bring your card to either Southwest Public Library location to finish the registration process.
A parent or guardian must sign for a minor (under age 18) and present photo identification that has the parent or guardian's name and current address, such as a driver's license or Ohio State ID. If the child is not present, identification must be shown for the child, such as birth certificate or social security card, insurance or welfare card, juvenile state ID card, or most recent school report card.
For the first month with a new library card, you may check out 10 items at a time. After one month, your limits are:
50 print items (books, magazines)
30 audio items (compact discs and audio books)
10 video (DVD, videocassette)
Books and other print material - 21 days
Audio books - 21 days
Compact discs - 14 days
Fiction videos and DVDs - 7 days
Non-fiction videos and DVDs - 14 days
Circulating magazines - 7 days
The fines for overdue items are as follows:
  • All adult materials including books, magazines, DVD and audio - 20 cents per day
  • All teen and juvenile materials including books, magazines, DVD and audio - 10 cents per day
No. Any item checked out at a Southwest Public Libraries location may be returned to either Southwest Public Library location as well as any Columbus Metropolitan Library or any Worthington Public Library.
Most library materials can be renewed five times as long as no reserve exists. Items that have reserves placed on them by other customers cannot be renewed. You cannot renew items if you have overdue fines totaling more than $10.
Yes, you can call the 24-hour automated renewal service at 614.645.2ASK and choose option 1 (one) from any touch-tone phone. You will need your library card number and your PIN. You can also call either Southwest Public Library (phone number located at the bottom of your receipt) location with your library card number to talk to a live person.
Yes, items can be renewed online using the "My Account" feature of the library's catalog. To renew items online, you will need your library card number and PIN. To access "My Account", click on the "My Account" icon on the SPL homepage or the Discovery Place catalog homepage.
This is your Personal Identification Number; it will be the last four digits of your telephone number unless you have chosen a different number. The PIN increases the security of your library card.
There are two ways of reserving items. To place a reserve for a single item, from the item details screen, click on the "Reserve" link. This link can be found on the right side of the screen, just above the copies and availability information, and also on the top right below the book cover image, if one is available. Follow the on-screen instructions, entering your library card number, PIN, and selecting a pick-up location. Click on "Continue" to place your reserve. You can close the reserve box by clicking on the link in the top right corner.You can also use the "Put in Book Bag" link to place reserves for multiple items. This is found next to the Reserve link. Clicking on the "Put in Book Bag" link changes the status to "Added." Clicking on it again will add additional copies of the item to your book bag. Once you have all desired items added to your book bag, click on the "Book Bag" link found in the gray navigation bar at the top. Follow the on-screen instructions as described for placing a reserve. You can reserve as many as 35 items (including 5 videos/DVDs) in person, by phone or online. You will be notified by phone, postcard or email when the item is available.
Library fines can be paid at either SPL location by cash, check, or credit or debit card. You can also pay them online with Visa or MasterCard through our website at www.swpl.org by clicking on "My Account," entering your library card number and PIN, and selecting "Pay your fines/fees online." Fines can also be paid over the phone with a credit or debit card by calling 614-875-6716 x162 (Grove City) or 614-878-1301 x123 (Westland), and speaking with a library staff member.Payments by check can be mailed to the library at this address: Southwest Public Libraries

You can check your account online and by phone. Call 614-875-6716 x162 (Grove City) or 614-878-1301 x123 (Westland) with your library card number handy and receive your account information including due dates, overdue fines, and the status of reserved items. You can also call our automated line at 614-645-2ASK and check your account with your card number and PIN. To check your account online, from the homepage click on the "My Account" link. You will be prompted for your library card number and PIN.
If you change your address, please contact the library in person or by phone at 614-875-6716 x162 (Grove City) or 614-878-1301 x123 (Westland).
There are two ways in which this can be handled.  You can go to our website (www.swpl.org), click the "My Account" button, login with your library card and PIN, click the "Report Lost Card" link in the top right corner and follow the prompt.  Another option is to call 614-645-2ASK (2275) and speak to a help desk assistant. You are responsible for all items checked out on your library card prior to the report, so please make your report as soon as possible.
If you have lost or damaged library materials, you will need to pay for the cost of the item as well as any overdue fines associated with the item. If you find a lost item within 30 days of paying for it, you may return it to either Southwest Public Library location and the library will refund the cost of the item.
