Community support leads to library expansion

Max, the Grove City Police Department's K9 dog, will be here with Officer Kitko to share stories and answer your questions.

Max's next visit will be at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at Grove City Library.

Moncman to resign, vacancy on board

Tuesday, Sept. 11, marked the final of meeting of Pattie Moncman, who is resigning from the Southwest Public Libraries Board of Trustees effective Oct. 9. She is moving outside of Franklin County and will be statutorily unable to serve.

Pattie Moncman joined the board in 2009 and served as board president during negotiations with the city of Grove City for the construction of the new Grove City Library. She worked tirelessly and diligently on the 2010 Levy Campaign, and her commitment to excellence, integrity, and advocacy for SPL played a major role in the library's advancement over the past decade.

We thank Pattie for her service and wish her the best of luck in her new ventures.

Her current seven-year term expires at the end of 2019. SPL is seeking qualified candidates to fill her seat. A trustee must be at least 18 years old and a resident of the South-Western City School District. All library trustees serve without compensation.

Lynda.com now available

Lynda.com, the online service network that offers users more than 12,000 self-guided courses taught by industry professionals, is now available through Southwest Public Libraries' website, www.swpl.org.
Normally a paid subscription service, Lynda.com has been made available for free to everyone with a valid Ohio library card thanks to a historic, first-of-its-kind agreement between the Ohio Library Council, the Ohio Public Libraries Information Network, and LinkedIn, which owns Lynda.com.
These courses cover a range of subjects including web development, computer programming, photography, and business. They are designed for any skill level, and anyone using them can proceed at their own pace.
All you need is your library card, and you can sign up Lynda.com for thousands of courses that teach and develop business, creative, and other professional skills.
SPL is excited to offer this new service to its patrons.
